Tallest statue in the world

Dedicated to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, known as Iron Man, the First Deputy Prime Minister of India and the first home minister, this Statue of Unity is the tallest statue in the world.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi passed the bill to build the world’s tallest 182 m high statue, the cost of the project was fixed at Rs 2,989 crore.

It was planned to inaugurate the statue of Iron Man Sardar Patel on the 143rd birth anniversary of 31 October 2018. There was no shortage of labor and material in this project which ended in a period of 42 months.

The idea of erecting the statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was first announced by Narendra Modi on 7 October 2010 at a press conference to commemorate the 10th year running as the Chief Minister of Gujarat.

Indian farmers were asked to donate their used agricultural implements to collect the iron required for Sardar Patel’s statue.

Eventually, about 5000 tons of iron were collected, however, it was not used to make the statue but this iron was used in other works related to the construction of the statue’s structure.

Sardar Patel was awarded the title for his great work towards the integration of princely states for the formation of the Indian Republic, tireless relief efforts for refugees leaving Delhi and Punjab, and integrating the allotted British colonial provinces.

The idea of the “Statue of Unity” originated as a sign of Sardar Patel’s contribution to India, a great nation full of diversities.
